Community Needs Index

 

The purpose of this report is to provide the community with digestible community data to inform their decision on the need for and focus of a community development entity in Stockton. More specifically, we highlight WHY these regions in Stockton demonstrate the most statistical need for community development.

Interactive Maps

In collaboration with the RSSC and CCEDA, the Edge Collaborative team developed a list of criteria to evaluate community needs in Stockton and assembled a list of over 33 data indicators from Policy Map, ranging from estimates of per capita income to the incarceration rate for low-income families.

The result is the Community Need Index (CNI), which measures the need for community development by calculating the extent to which each census tract deviates from overall averages of community health. The higher the score, the more development is required.

There is both a weighted and unweighted version of the CNI. The weighted CNI score gives more weight to a predetermined list of indicators that have been identified as those best suited to measure the community needs criteria. Edge Collaborative has worked with Policy Map to upload the weighted and unweighted CNI into online interactive maps. These maps are displayed below:
